This week I did something I have been struggling with for a long, long time. I got a manicure. Part of the perpetual poppycock I deal with in my head, is the never ending barrage of thoughts that prevent me from doing the smallest things for myself that might fall into the category of vanity. I have a strange struggle with feeling like these efforts to look pretty are pointless and either people are going to like me as I am or not at all. Its so dumb!

The truth is doing small things for yourself is beneficial far beyond the surface level vanity perks. I know this but forget it over and over again. When you take the time to do something nice for yourself, it sparks your spirit and that radiates out. Simply put, it makes you feel special. I want my kids to know it’s perfectly ok, to practice self care, even if it seems vain. And so, I am trying to get beyond the perpetual poppycock in my cloudy brain and show them how.

Yesterday I did something for myself and my daughter that was good, old fashioned, surface level vanity and it was so freaking fun! We got a manicure!

She has the most beautiful, long, natural nails that she paints frequently. She is very into the nail designs she sees from influencers and tries to emulate them at home but we don’t have any tools beyond a couple bottles of nail polish. So yesterday, I wanted to treat her to a holiday manicure and let her get one of those fancy designs. We had a great time!

I learned that the nail technology has changed a lot since my last manicure, 12 plus years ago. Gel nails are blowing my mind! I know this is not new information to everyone but it was to me so I’m just spreading the word to others, who have been away from the salon chair for as long as I have.

I feel pretty sitting here typing with my brand new gel nails and sipping my coffee, makeup free, in my pjs. I keep stopping to look at them. It’s such a small thing but it has perked me right up, lol!

So, gel nails are a new kind of polish that hardens quickly, using a light. When I say quickly, I mean while she was painting one hand, the other hand dried within seconds under the light. They last longer than traditional polish, come in countless colors, and add volume to your real nail making them feel stronger. No more smudging your polish the second you get out of the salon. No more chipping your nail trying to zip up your coat because they are too thin to be sturdy. No more polish wearing off within 2 weeks. This stuff lasts and looks great for weeks. I was amazed!

We were both so amazed that we immediately got on Amazon to find out how to get gel nails at home. A manicure is fun but not affordable as frequently as I’d like to polish my nails now, so we needed a more economical way to do this. I found these kits from Beetles Gel Polish Store and bought one of them with tons of colors we both liked.

The reviews of Beetles are very good and I found several influencer videos and posts confirming that its the product to try. I can’t wait to get them! I hope to share a review of how it is to use as soon as I have it in hand, and definitely share what designs my daughter comes up with. She is excited to exercise her artistic side.

I want to remind everyone to get over the perpetual poppycock in your way and do something to make yourself special. When you feel good, it’s even easier to pass on that feeling to others. Buy the lipstick, get a manicure, wear the hat…its ok to feel pretty!
